The camera celebrates its 170th birthday in 2009. To mark this occasion, the Kennelly family is making available its extensive collection of black & white photos which capture Irish people, towns, villages and scenic locations. From his earliest days as a photographer, Padraig Kennelly believed today’s photography is tomorrow’s history. His negatives were carefully stored and filed, in the belief that some day a system would be available to prolong the life of the images, and facilitate their easy retrieval. Half a century after he began taking photographs, digital imaging has made his hopes a reality.
