  John Duignan was a member of the "church" of $cientology - the Co$ - for some 20 years, 1985 to 2006.

  He described being roped in by the personality test at a point in his life
  where he wasn't doing too well; the registrar found his ruin and
  pounced. John Duignan had a psychotic break quite early (after a few weeks)
  and went through (and graduated from) the "introspection rundown." He
  estimates that 50% of the $cientologists he knew had, at one time or another,
  suffered through a psychotic break.

  John Duignan went on to join the Sea Org and had more ups than downs until
  he finally left while on post in Birmingham, UK. He ascribes some of the
  reason that he left to critical websites, singling out Kristi
  Wachter's and Larry Wollersheim's sites. Some of the stories of ex-members
  on forums rang true to him and increased his willingness to question his
  involvement with the Co$.

  Right from the start, the book emphasises the hypnosis aspect of dianetics and $cientology processing.

  The cadet org in the UK at St Hill is described as perpetrating cruelty to
  children.

  "They [children in the Cadet Org] .. did full production days. This entailed
  schooling from 9am to 3pm, followed by cleaning work at Walshe Manor or at
  Saint Hill between 4pm and, at earliest, 6pm. It would sometimes go on
  until 10pm."

  The kids, aged 8 to 12, would get put on "lower conditions" and although
  John Duignan managed to get them out into nature a bit and join a riding
  school, he describes as one of the saddest moment a barbeque he had managed
  to get the kids to attend where they would group together and not mix
  with "wog" (non-$cientology) children because they were afraid.

  John Duignan had some involvement with the handling of the Andrea Catts case
  in Bournemouth (students encouraged to lie on loan applications to get bank
  loans to pay for $cientology courses - Andrea was forced to accept all
  blame and later declared SP). He states that the settlement with Andrea
  came to 600000 pounds. Good for Andrea :-) Once the cult had settled with
  Andrea, they left it to Bournemouth org to come up with the money which is
  what John Duignan organised. During his stay in Bournemouth, he started
  looking at critical information on the web (after noticing that e-meters
  were for sale on e-bay).

  Anonymous gets a glowing review at the end :-)

  All in all a very personal book which on one hand describes a person who was
  a success in his works as a $cientologist (in spite of senior management) and on the
  other hand describes the painfully slow process of realising that the one
  core thing in his life, $cientology and L Ron Hubbard, was not what it
  claimed to be but was in fact destroying him, and all members, rather than
  saving the planet.

  The book was a wonderful and informative read. I almost felt that I was right there with John as he described his actions and views year after year while working within organized scientology.

  In reading through the chapters I got a strong feeling of the conflicts John must have gone through as a decent human being trying to help others while caught up inside an abusive organization where horrible truths are hidden behind religious cloaking and corporate veils.

  It was like going on an emotional roller coaster ride with the author. I could see John trying hard to believe the lies that form the bedrock of organized scientology, trying his best to still be a decent person while somehow trying to function in an organization run by a horribly abusive person.

  After reading the book it is my belief that John was like many others who joined organized scientology because they truly wanted to help people and because they were fooled that Hubbard and scientology were more than they really were. But once in they are caught in a web of lies where staff are abused on a huge worldwide scale, families destroyed, human rights violations are the order of the day, children are horribly abused and neglected and much more combines to form the inner workings of a highly abusive cult.

  I think this is an important read for anyone who may wish to have anything whatsoever to do with organized scientology. I believe this book can go a long way towards answering questions about how can otherwise decent and intelligent people get caught up on staff in organized scientology while enduring all thought abuses.

  Great book. I went through what John describes one year ahead of him.
  Scientology says he is a liar. I say they
  are liars. It would be a good idea to find out what happens inside a cult that plans
  to control every aspect of you and your family`s life.
  This book achieves that and more.

  This book is excellent.I've just finished it.No wonder the cult of Scientology want it banned.It exposes the horrific life the people trapped inside the cult endure for years , especially those in the infamous Sea Org elite.

  A fantastic read , God help the poor brainwashed victims of this evil cult.

  A clear warning to those who are unittingly offered the churches "free personality test" or "free stress test".

  It shows the true aim of scientology , in the words of its founder L.Ron.Hubbard
  "Make money , Make more money ,Make other people make money for you".

  The cost , ,your health , savings,your life , family and sanity.

  Thank you, John, for your courage. I read each word knowing for a fact all was true. The Complex, also known as "Big Blue" has one more heinous secret: Asbestos.

  Hopefully yet another book will be written, and another lawsuit, class action style will be forthcoming.

  Asbestos exposure when experienced by smokers alone, not to mention physical malnutrition, exhaustion and mental stress, increases cancer potential vastly. Also, secondary exposure happens...via air conditioning ducts, or someone walking by with asbestos dust on their shoes, clothes, skin and hair. Hundreds of thousands of staff and public were exposed over decades.

  The "Freewinds" ship asbestos coverup is minor in comparison. Renovations occurred often from 1970's and on at Big Blue. Scn Mgmt got caught with suprise inspections. 1990 or 1991, at least, outsourced company came in with Hazmat suits. Can't help wonder about all Scn's old buildings and illegal renovations by slave laborers (staff)didn't expose even more.

  What kind of Monsters do this to their own people? I can think of quite a few in history. Please, John, make sure you tell your doctor that you were exposed.

  You were brilliantly able to survive the unsurvivable. Hopefully we can all motivate to get in good health and medical science will help. God Help Us All to escape the aftermath of "The Complex".
