Dark fantasy

Dark fantasy books and stories fall on the edgier, grittier side of the fantasy genre. Disturbing or frightening elements that could belong to horror fiction may appear here, or they may showcase a 'shades of grey' morality with worlds inhabited by anti-heroes and anti-heroines, where the good guys (if there are any) don't always win.  Some dark fantasy tales also fit the 'grimdark' description, like The Games of Thrones book series by George R.R.
